I took Scout to the doctor for her two year old check up yesterday. I needed to get her shots, ask the doctor about her possible pink eye and cold, and to inquire as to his opinion on locking your child in their room at night.
First the shots...got her scheduled Hep A vaccination, but he pretty much told me I had to get the flu shot for her since she's in day care. He said the Flu is just now arriving. So, I'm glad that worked out as far as her getting it.
The possible pink eye: I had never seen pink eye, and I wasn't sure if the oozing eye thing she had going last week was it. When I asked him, the doctor was like, yeah, that was probably pink eye. Good to know. Sorry I didn't get her any drops, but just made her suffer. Whoops.
Finally, the locking of the Scout in her room at night: The doctor gave me the thumbs up! That was all I needed to head to Wal-Mart and pick up the door knob covers. Scott installed it inside her room yesterday. You might be wondering why now. Well, Scott and I have been madly suffering from lack of sleep for the last three months basically. Scout wakes up at least every 2 hours crying. At any given middle of the night hour, she may be in her bed, our bed, or wondering in between. However, you can be sure that she will be crying, wining, and begging for mommy or daddy.
Not last night!
Last night, I put her to bed in her bed. I did wait for her to fall asleep, then I walked out and shut the door. I was so nervous like she'd figure out at any time that we'd rigged her door knob. I was anxious about the whole thing too because I was anticipating the fallout at about 11pm, 2am, 4am, etc. But, mostly, I found myself giddy with the excitement that I'd get a real night's sleep in my bed, without Scout, without getting up three times in the night to play merry-go-round beds, and without having to get Scout milk out of the fridge two different times.
Success....Scout screamed and cried....but she was trapped like a rat in her room all night! Scott and I finally got sleep! And, we're going to do it all again tonight....the trapping, the crying, and hopefully the sleeping.

Who would've thought you'd be back to sleep deprivation with a two year old? Glad to hear that you got the professional ok to "lock" her in. That's good to know. I nearly had a heart attack one morning when Jarod found Charlie wandering back to our room. He gets into enough trouble when he's supervised!
I hope Scout adjusts quickly and learns to just stay in bed:)
Oh yeah, and how much torture is it when your two year old can beg and scream not to get shots?! I thought it was tough to see 'em get stuck when they were tiny. No way; two is worse.
Mean, evil mommy! lol. Can I borrow your doorknob covers?!
Did she eventually go to bed on her own or did you hear her all night? Way to set boundaries.
And gross on the pink eye, I see from your email everyone has it now...next time the drops might be helpful! :)
I "told" you I had drops, but somebody didn't listen. My poor pumkin is now locked up at night! Maybe she'll just start sleeping all night now that she knows the wandering bit has been curtailed. Mom
Scout can come sleep at my house and wander all she wants! What if she's really, really thirsty?

Ok, I think you should write your own book! You would crap on Jenni McCarthy. Now we all know who to go to when we are having problems! Thanks!
Yay! And may my bug not figure out doorknobs until she is 10yrs old.
that's hilarious. glad we're still in a crib for the time being. we get the "alarm" at about 5 AM every day, and we get him, bring him in our bed, give him a little milk and he goes back to sleep. this was a charming thing, but now that i'm hitting mo. 9 of pregnancy, it's not so cute anymore because i have no room now. :(
that's some good stuff...hey, whatever works. Sorry about the pink eye though. That sucks.
