We had a sonogram today:
That's me on the table, and that's the sonographer , Danielle, who's been doing our sonograms since Scout was a pea. Ok, you guessed it. That isn't really me or Danielle, but I didn't have a photo of us. I mean, it's similar; except I don't unbutton my shirt and reveal my bra during this procedure.
As for the results, it was revealed to us that this baby has really grown since the last sonogram when she was 16 weeks and only at the 50th percentile. Now, at 31.5 weeks, she is at the 97th percentile, weighing 4.5lbs (doesn't seem big, but she will put on 3/4 lb a week) and measuring 3 weeks ahead of schedule. The sonographer really noticed, with sort of a sigh and a head tilt, that Brooke's head is quite large. She's also got a heck of a femur, chubby cheeks, and a big belly. Immediately, I was thinking about my last delivery with Scout: the 10lb 13oz baby of '05 which left me damaged. Danielle asked if she had told us that she's be that big and such. I said that "you only told us she was big," back at a similar point in the sonogram gauntlet. She went to her files so we could compare the two babies. Results: basically, at this point in development, Brooke and Scout are pretty similar.
So class, what conclusion can you draw from this data?
My conclusion is that I'm on track to have another 10-11lb, cantelope-headed, baby come trudging through my lower regions. So, Scott and Danielle talk and mention that 37 weeks is the earliest a doctor will induce. I was on my iphone calendar counting back from July 27th. I came up with a July 7th date to propose to Dr. G.
Then, we head into (no pun intended) Dr. G's realm. He let's me know that I did indeed pass my remedial glucose test (after you fail the first test-you have to take the "remedial" that spans 3 hours). We start talking about the sonogram results. I point out the 3 week ahead of schedule numbers, he notices the 97th percentile and the large head. And, before I could suggest 7/7/08 as a possible induction date, he says, I think we'll induce on July 15th. I make an argument, saying that at the 15th we're still looking at a 10lb baby. He says that he won't do any earlier because of the lungs. I'm like, lungs-schmungs.
Now, I'm not in a hurry to really have this baby. It isn't that. I know that once the baby arrives, my life just gets stickier. I'm just trying to get the birth weight for this baby to under 10 lbs - preferrably capped at 9.5lbs - so my undercarriage isn't in the shop for a month. I feel like my best bet to keep Brooke's weight minimal is roll with the case for the 37 week delivery. Finally, Dr. G says, "we'll do a C-section on the 15th."
Interesting. Catch-22.
I don't really want a C-section, but I don't want to push out a microwave either. So, we'll discuss further at the next appointment, but we are pretty much looking at 7/15/08, C-section.
Ok, so that was a long rambling info post. However, some of you will read it all.
Now, here's a rundown of what happened after Scott and I left the office around noon today:
I was driving my jeep on the freeway heading back to our house. I was in 5th gear in the left lane. I RAN OUT OF GAS.
I managed to coast off the freeway and onto the access road about a half mile downhill from a gas station. Scott was rather irritated at me for allowing us to run out of gas. But, he just got out and went to get gas. My dad met him at the station with a gas can and drove him back to me. I even have a picture:

Right after I took the picture of Scott sweating and working, I realized I was getting lots of stings all over my feet because I was standing in a fire ant hill. I suppose that is what I get for running us out of gas and taking Scott's picture while he slaved away. I jumped out of my shoes, swatted about 100 ants on my feet, and got up into the Jeep. I mean, I had a meeting at school, so I was sort of in a hurry.
Pretty much, I'm awesome. I am truly living the dream.

Damn Aurora, You have been tanning!!
OMG, you don't know how hard I am laughing right now!!
You need to regulate Dr. G! If you Brooke the 7th she will come!
Maybe she will be breach and kick your water and then you will have emergency c-section!! Come into the club!
LOL! What to pick to comment on? Undercarriage? Microwave?
I can't choose.
Well, with the C-section at least you won't have all that pelvic bruising from pushing out the microwave. Dang your large uterus. June 15th is a good birthday! And when I saw how long the post was and I got excited.
Big babies are good! C-Sections are not bad either. You get to keep your epidural for 24 hours after you deliver. Scott is a good man. I think Dewey would have laughed at me and left me on the side of the road!!
Love the long post....you know we would read it. Here's to the baby coming early...but I'm bad luck when it comes to that, so maybe shouldn't listen to me. :) Ok, one perk to Iowa, is I can walk around my yard barefoot...free from fire ants.
This message is really for SCOTT and refers to running out of gas in 5th gear in the FAR left lane. I FEEL YOUR GAS PAINS SCOTT!!!! Do we need to recall the January 25, 2005 episode when we were in your MINI Cooper in San Antonio and the SAME thing happened. Only this time it was pouring rain and we were on the way to COURT for my DIVORCE hearing! We spent 5 minutes assessing mechanical failure when it dawns on me we are out of gas. To which you respond, "Oh yeah! That happens to me all the time. I usually carry a gas can!" I made a "note to self" that day about traveling with you. It is funny how you time it around major events though - such as a BIG BABY sono. And yes - let the fire ants be a stinging reminder to keep the tank on F, not E, so you don't find yourself in that situation with TWO kids. =) Dee Ann
Amen to all the comments and great story of course we read all of your posts, you'd have to be born without a personality and sense of humor not too...Are ya gonna buy my book...?????? sniffle! Put the word out ferd...
We all can not wait to meet "the microwave"! Is that what we are calling Brooke from now on? Keep the long blogs and laughs a comin'. debbie
JULY 15! for real? that's like 1 month away. this has been the most incognito pregnancy i've ever experienced. i think this is the first time i've ever even heard you discuss the details behind it. congrats, you're almost there!
Oh my gosh!! I don't know whether to cry or pee my pants laughing! Sorry for the big baby and the running out of gas, but you have a gift sister - I love your story-telling!!
WOW! I can't believe all of the images that you conjured up here...I'm pretty much ready to abstain from any baby-making activities for fear of birthing a "microwave" myself... LOL. Love your posts! Glad to hear all is welll with baby #2!
