Don't Let the Tu-Tu Fool You

Oh so sweet and innocent....

Today was D-Day for Scout. Events have collided to make naps and bedtime one big car-wreck in our house. I'll sum it up by telling you that we are re-vamping how we do:

Old Nap time: Her nap time routine has sucked with me in charge. At school, she took her nap after lunch with all the other littles. But, at home, we can't ever get her to take a nap until like 2 or 3pm when she falls asleep in our bed watching cartoons. Right. SUCKAS!

New Nap Time: Today, I made a stand, and I will continue to for the next three weeks while I'm off work: I put her in her room at 1:30 and read one story to her. Then, I put the lock on her door and walked out. Oh man, was she P.O.'d. She was pleading with me to not do it. Once she knew I wasn't coming back in the room, she went into destruction mode. I could hear her pulling all her books off the shelf, drawers opening and closing, and just a whole lot of ruckus in there. In the past, I've gone in and tried to discipline at this point. I get frustrated and all that. And, I think she gets what she wants...me coming back in the room. So, I decided to just let her tear it up. She finally fell asleep and napped for almost 2 hours. When she woke up this afternoon, I took these pictures of her room just for you all to see:
Notice the shelves are clear of all books and toys:Here I'd like to draw your attention to the toppled over clothes hamper and the cleared off top of the dresser:There she is, happy as can be after her nap. Normally, there are lots of pillows and blankets on her bed. Hmmmm...

***I wanted to leave the mess all week, yet we made her clean a lot of it up. She thought that was great fun. Gi-Gi's idea is: taking away TV for the day if it happens again. And, she'll go to time out. I know all of you are judging my entire world here, but I don't care. You can judge. Judge it up I say. Eat some shaking head with a side of judge.

Old Bedtime: Instead of falling asleep in our bed at like 9pm (then us moving her to her bed later), we are going to force her to go to sleep in her bed and at an earlier time.

New Bedtime: Last night, I began the gauntlet that is bedtime. I started at like 7:30 I think, with a story. I ended up reading 3 long stories. Then, I got her some water. I tried to leave it at that. But, she showed up in my room smiling at me while I was reading my own book in bed. So, I got sucked in by her cute face, and I went and read my book next to her in her bed. Right, SUCKA!

She still didn't fall asleep.

I finally, left her again at like 9pm. She fell asleep on her own.

I didn't have the lock on her door, so she got up in the middle of the night and asked me to come and lay down with her. Dangit!

Resolution for tonight: Read a couple of stories and leave. Put the lock on the inside of the door. Prepare for a lot of screaming and begging and crying. I feel like we've done it before. But, this time we have a baby to deal with; she's almost three years old; and we are trying to get a system down for when I go back to work.

must be a 'girlie' thing. I had no problem with Jason going to sleep; and he hasn't changed in 35 years.....

Wow, I don't even know how you are still sane. That tornado of a room would have done me in. I am not going to judge, no sir, and no shaking head.

I'm having a hard time believing little Scout could do such a thing! I've never seen this side of her -- could this whole thing be staged????

Actually she's not the first - Jerry & Adam did this once (or maybe more?) -- they were just "having fun!"

Never a dull moment around there, huh? And at least she didn't "put her fingers in her mouth" and throw up on it!!

And HOW CUTE is little Brooke? I just hope Scout doesn't teach her any tricks!
